Using CoffeeCup to create an animated GIF.

What is an Animated GIF ?

Have a look at these samples from Previous years

Animated GIFs are cartoons or animations. The GIF part is a format, it stands for Graphics Interchange Format and is designed for Images on the Internet.

GIF is a versatile format because it includes still images and animated images.

You can make your own GIF image using MS Paint

Go START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > PAINT.

Animation is the process of placing a number of images in a sequence and then playing the images quickly. We see this in TV and computers all the time .

See the boy waving , this is a GIF with 2 frames each almost the same but in one the hand is lower than the other. Put the two frames together and you have animation

In PAINT create 4 images that are slightly different from each other . Try the idea of a seed sprouting a shoot.

  1. Create an image of the seed, save it as seed1, save it in the My Pictures folder
  2. Now change the image of the seed by creating a small crack in it.
  3. Save As and call the image seed2
  4. Repeat process until you have 4 images

Open CoffeeCup GIF Animator

START > PROGRAMS > COFFEECUP SOFTWARE

  1. Click on the Wizard Button ( Create New Animation ) far left side of Menu bar
  2. Follow Wizard
  3. Remember where your images are and place them in order
  4. After you have finished and you are happy with the result SAVE
  5. Close CoffeeCup
  6. Open a Browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape)
  7. go FILE > OPEN FILE > navigate to your animated gif > OPEN
