VICTORIA UNIVERSITY SPORTS CAMPS SCHOLARSHIPS

This very successful outreach program offered by the School of Sport and Exercise Science has been operating for 14 years. During each school holiday program a range of sports camps are offered at the Footscray Park Campus and selected sites such as the Werribee Campus of VU. To date over 6000 students have attended these camps. A special scholarship program has been operating in conjunction with these camps since their inception. They are funded by Victoria University and over the years by various sponsors such as the Age newspaper, the Victorian Department of Justice, Rotary, Fairfax Community newspapers, Hungry Jacks and Life Fitness. Details on the scholarship program are as follows:

VU Sports Camps Scholarships for Primary and Secondary School Students

Each year all primary schools and secondary schools in the western region are offered scholarships which allow them to nominate their own students to attend the sports camps during the January camp period when a wide variety of camps are offered. These scholarships are valued at $150 to $165 each and approximately 100 are allocated each year. Applications for these occur in October to December of each year.

VU Sports Camps Junior Leader Scholarships for Secondary School Students with an interest in tertiary studies in Physical Education, Human Movement and Sports Coaching

Secondary colleges in the western region are contacted and encouraged to nominate a student 16 years of age or over who may have an inclination towards tertiary study in a sport-related field. As part of their scholarship award, these students are given specialised leadership training, first aid and Bronze Medallion training and they also volunteer for leadership training in the sports camp program. Students interested must submit a letter of application, along with a resume and they are interviewed. Successful applicants are allocated a scholarship ranging from $150 to $300 and also they do not pay any fees for specialised leadership training such as attaining a Bronze Medallion award within the Sports Camp program. Up to 20 scholarships such as this are awarded each year and applications can be submitted at any time during the year.

VU Sports Camps Coaches Scholarships for Victoria University Students with an interest in tertiary studies in Physical Education, Human Movement, Education and Sports Coaching

Students at Victoria University are eligible to apply for these scholarships either as part of a Career and Professional Development (CPD) placement or as a work-integrated learning experience. As part of their scholarship award, these students are given specialised leadership training, first aid and Bronze Medallion training and they also volunteer for leadership training in the sports camp program. Students interested must submit a letter of application, along with a resume and they are interviewed. Successful applicants are allocated a scholarship ranging from $150 to $1000 and they also do not pay any fees for specialised leadership training such as attaining a Bronze Medallion award within the Sports Camp program. Up to 75 scholarships are awarded annually and applications can be submitted at any time during the year.
