Literature Review: FAQ


 

Q1. How do I know what is required?

A1.Teachers are happy to clarify the task if you ask. If you don't clarify the details, they will assume you know them.

Q2. Why do I have to do a literature review?

A2. To tell the reader what people have said about an issue in the past, and what the current thinking is. It shows what is important or controversial, and what areas have been neglected.

Q3. Is there a proper way to organise a literature review?

A3. There is no 'correct way, but a useful way is to do it chronologically (by date). Another way is to highlight the major issues that are relevant to your work .

Q4. How do I choose the literature?

A4. Be careful not to list all the works you have read on a chosen topic, but choose the most relevant articles and/or books.

Q5.  What if there are too many articles or books?

A5.  If it seems like there is too much material, narrow down your topic.

Q6.  What if there isn't enough material?

A6. If it seems there isn't enough information, try a wider search in the library. You could be limiting yourself to too narrow an area and need to widen the scope to closely related fields, or you may need to select another topic.
