Step 3: Organise your ideas

  • Write your introduction by answering the topic in one paragraph only. Pretend that this is all you are allowed to write. Ensure you cover all parts of the topic.

  • From your mind-map notes, choose an appropriate number of general headings that answer the topic, and cover most of your thoughts. These will become the topics of the paragraphs in the body of the essay.

  • Group and rewrite your points under this smaller number of general headings. (Each general heading should be on a separate page, so you can add to them.)
