This competency covers the understanding required to identify hazards that may exist within the workplace, the procedures for dealing with these hazards and assisting in the management of Occupational Health and Safety.

Follow workplace procedures for hazard and risk control

The workplace can be very dangerous. Workplace accidents and injuries are often caused by careless mistakes or negligence. The incidence of workplace injury can cost employers many millions of dollars each year.

Some office related Injuries can arise from:

  • Long periods of time on a computer without the appropriate breaks
  • Poor lighting
  • Excessive noise
  • Repetitive work without alternating tasks
  • Using non-ergonomic equipment
  • Working within an unsafe work station
  • Stress
  • Ineffective training
