Disclaimer
I am available for student research supervision in fourth-year (honours/graduate diploma) and postgraduate level. Research supervision is crucial educational experience. Research supervision not only imparts research planning and analytical skills but also equip students to proceed to the next stage of their academic/professional career. Although research requires hard work and persistent effort, it is also extremely rewarding and even fun.
For fourth-year students, an honours thesis project or a graduate diploma thesis constitutes arguably the most important component. My job as a supervisor is to assist students to achieve the best possible outcome within the timeline from the planning stage of research projects, oversight of research execution, to the final write-up of the research data.
If you are looking for a research supervisor, here are some points that you should be aware: (a) your supervisor's expertise on the topic and cognate area, (b) communication with your supervisor, and (c) availability of your supervisor (for the duration of your research project). Generally speaking, choose someone who has expertise in the area. It would be much better to be supervised by people who know a lot about the research topic than those who may not. Second, it is important that you are able to establish a good rapport with your supervisor. Ideally speaking, communication with your supervisor should be open and effortless based on mutual trust. (If you feel you're misunderstood easily and explain simple things many times, maybe it is not a good idea to choose that person as a supervisor. It'll get harder as you go). Lastly but not least, you need a supervisor who is physically present and available when you need him or her most. (Excellent supervisors are also busy and go off to study leave or conference trips. Ask their schedule to ensure that they are available for the entire duration of your project).
If you are interested in research topics in my expertise area, please take a look at my Curriculum Vitae. This document lists the titles of my research project. To find out what types of research projects my supervisees completed, take a look at Supervision Experience. Many conference papers that I presented were written with my students (see. International/National Conference Papers for details). Publications or Research Interest is another section to explore.
While students' own research interest is important, it is normal that fourth-year students (honours/Graduate Diploma) will select the research topic with consultation with a prospective supervisor, in the expertise area of your supervisor. At postgraduate levels (Masters by research, PhD by research) prospective students are expected to pursue their own original research topics within the expertise areas of their supervisor. If you wish to discuss supervision arrangement or future plans, contact me or send me e-mail.
