By using (logging into) this system it is assumed that you have READ the CONDITIONS OF USE and ACCEPT the terms specified.

WARNING: It is a criminal offence to:
  1. Obtain access to data without authority
    (Penalty 2 years imprisonment)
  2. Damage, delete, alter or insert data without authority
    (Penalty 10 years imprisonment)

Client use and access:
Accounts are available for use by staff of Victoria University only. Accounts may be suspended for breaches of the conditions and under certain conditions can ultimatley lead to the termination of employment with the University.

Unacceptable content:
Accounts will be suspended for breaches of the conditions which enforce that content must not be of a commercial, illegal or offensive nature.

Liability:
Victoria University, Information Technology Services and the managment can not be held responsible for the security, maintenance or reliability of the content or operation of this site.

Allocated space:
An initial maximum of 10Mb is provided to each account holder. In the event this limit is exceeded, notification of the infringement will be made to the owner. It is expected that a resolution of the infringement will be made within a reasonable time or the account may be suspended or terminated without further notice. Sites legitimately requiring in excess of the standard 10Mb allocation may be considered, but may incur costs to the department or individual.

CONDITIONS OF USE

ADMIN SYSTEMS ARE PROVIDED FOR AUTHORISED CLIENTS ONLY
UNAUTHORISED access to an account or content is prohibited.
Users will NOT :
  • allow anyone access to their account.
  • supply passwords to anyone.
  • use facilities that by-pass the password system.
Attempting to gain access to other accounts or machines at this University or elsewhere without the proper authority will be treated as a serious breach of security and may lead to legal or disciplinary action.

Users may not attempt to change, remove or damage software or hardware belonging to the University or any other student or staff member.

Logins are only permitted from ONE machine at any one time.

The use of and/or storage of programs designed for security administration, hacking, harassment and other unsociable or illegal activities is banned.

The use of and/or storage of programs deemed unauthorised may be removed without notice with the possibility of further disciplinary or legal action being taken.

Computing and networking resources (disks, printers, modems, etc) must not be abused. Games, images, programs and files used or stored for non academic or research purposes may be deleted without notice.

Storage and/or use of illegal software or files and/or illegal activities will not be tolerated and may result in the notification of the appropriate authorities.

The use of interactive messaging programs such as talk and write should not be abused. Do not send talk requests or messages to accounts without prior permission. In general, email the account first and ask the account holder to send you a talk request.

Commercial use of University resources without prior written approval is prohibited.

Any breach of these rules will result in the immediate suspension of your account while further action is decided. This may lead to the cancellation of the account with possible legal implications and/or disciplinary action. In the case where account abuse is determined to be of a general non-illegal nature, the following policy will be adhered to
  • First offence : Access will be denied for a period of two weeks.
  • Second offence : Access will be denied for a period of one month.
  • Third offence : Access will be denied indefinitely.
