            Interrfacings: A Journal of Contemporary Media Studies
              Interrfacings: A Journal of Contemporary Media Studies is a new online publication devoted to contemporary interdisciplinary approaches to media practices, seeking manuscripts that work on the frontiers of the burgeoning field of media studies. The title reflects this in-between zone, where the surface boundary joins adjacent fields of study in order to thicken the interdiscipline. The qualitative, critical perspective that defines this journal will open new areas for analysis and create new frameworks for inquiry in contemporary media studies. This journal, created by the graduate students of the Institute of Communications Research, provides a forum for young scholars to shape the future of media and cultural studies.
            INTERSECTIONS: Gender, History & Culture in the Asian Context
              Intersections is a refereed electronic journal for new research and teaching in the area of Gender Studies in the Asian region. It stems from Murdoch University's School of Asian Studies. Placed at the junction of historical and contemporary concerns, Intersections emphasises the paramount importance of research into the region's multiple historical and cultural gender patterns. Intersections explores innovative ways of 'doing' history using new technologies: it is a place where oral, written and visual history can tangibly cross paths allowing for new connections to be made.

E-Briefs offer an introduction to these topics, providing background and commentary. As well as current briefs, the site also archives earlier briefs.                                 Bursaries at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh
                                  The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at The University of Edinburgh is calling for applications for three postdoctoral bursaries which it is offering in the areas of its two research themes, 'The New Information Order' and 'Scotland in Europe / Europe in Scotland'. Each bursary is worth £5,000, and is tenable for a period of three to twelve months in the academic years 2001/2 and 2002/3; The closing date for applications is 30th September 2001.

                                Social Science Research Council Program on the Arts Fellowships
                                  The SSRC sponsors fellowship and grant programs on a wide range of topics, and across many different career stages. Most support goes to predissertation, dissertation, and postdoctoral fellowships, offered through annual competitions. Some programs support summer institutes and advanced research grants. Although most programs target the social sciences, many are also open to applicants from the humanities, the natural sciences, and relevant professional and practitioner communities.

                                  The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars supports research in the social sciences and humanities. Men and women from a wide variety of backgrounds, including government, the non-profit sector, the corporate world, and the professions, as well as academia, are eligible for appointment. Through an international competition, it offers residential fellowships to academics, public officials, journalists, and business professionals.                                                     Making the Macintosh: Technology and Culture in Silicon Valley
                                                      Apart from the subject itself, the site is an interesting model of historical presentation on the web. The site's producers do a fine job interpreting the story of how the Mac technical community created a cultural phenomenon. The exhibit features primary documents, such as memos tracing the evolution of the Macintosh mouse; images, such as technical drawings, stills from commercials, notes from user tests; and interviews with members of the Macintosh development team, technical writers, and founders of user groups.

                                                      This new online directory from UNESCO is devoted to 'policy making in the field of culture.' Though the page is relatively new, there are already more than 400 annotated links here in ten categories including Ministries of Culture, Networks and Culturenets, Research Institutes, International Organizations, and so on. Part of the larger Culture and UNESCO site, Windows to Culture is a good demonstration of "value-added"; clicking on the detailed view for a resource brings up the title, address, URL, email address, country, region, themes, and a nice description of the resource /organization.
